TSP funds at the close

Every stock-based TSP fund rose Monday, and two of them cleared 1%. The S Fund led at $103.1656, up 1.47%. The I Fund followed at $56.7184, up 1.23%. The C Fund closed at $110.4419, up 0.64%.

The year-to-date figures match the one-day moves for most funds. That means Monday was the first TSP pricing day of 2026, so the new year's scorecard starts here.

Why each fund moved

C Fund (S&P 500): Up 0.64%, in line with the S&P 500's 0.64% gain in the index data below. The fund is built to mirror that index, so the match is expected. Its five-day figure is still down 0.37%, so the gain only partly offsets a soft stretch.

S Fund (Dow Jones U.S. Completion): The 1.47% jump was the biggest of any fund. This index holds mid-sized and smaller U.S. companies, the ones left out of the S&P 500, so it can move harder than the large-cap C Fund in either direction. Its five-day gain is 0.70%.

I Fund (MSCI ACWI ex-US ex-China): Up 1.23% on the day and 2.01% over five days, the best five-day number on the board. The international ETF in the IRA data, VXUS, also gained more than 1% (see below), which fits.

F Fund (Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate): Up 0.21% to $20.9037. A falling Treasury yield tends to lift bond prices, and the 10-year yield did slip. The five-day change is flat at -0.01%.

G Fund: Up 0.04% to $19.5991. It follows a Treasury rate and doesn't swing with markets. It is the steady line in the table.

L Funds

The L Funds blend the five individual funds, so their results line up with how much stock each one holds. L Income, the most conservative, gained 0.30%. L 2030 rose 0.57%, L 2040 0.71%, and L 2050 0.80%. From L 2055 through L 2075, the stock-heavy end, every fund rose 0.95%. None of the L Funds crossed 1%, because the bond and G Fund slices held the totals back.

Notable moves

Over 1% in the TSP: the S Fund (+1.47%) and I Fund (+1.23%). No fund fell on the day.

What moved IRA index funds and ETFs

One caution: the index and ETF numbers below are from the prior session's close, so they are not a perfect side-by-side with Monday's TSP prices.

  • S&P 500: 6,902.05, up 0.64%.
  • Nasdaq Composite: 23,395.82, up 0.69%.
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average: 48,977.18, up 1.23%. This is the 30-stock Dow, not the index behind the S Fund.
  • Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI): $338.84, up 0.75%, a broad U.S. gain.
  • Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS): $77.35, up 1.06%.
  • Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND): $74.18, up 0.19%.
  • 10-Year Treasury yield: 4.165%, down 0.53%.

The pattern is simple. Stocks rose across the board, international shares did a bit better than U.S. shares, and bonds edged up as the 10-year yield eased.

What it means for your plan

One day tells you very little. A 1.47% gain in the S Fund on the first trading day of a year doesn't set the tone for the next twelve months, and a 0.04% day in the G Fund doesn't make it a bad choice. Your results over decades come from how much you save, how your mix fits your timeline, and whether you can stay put when prices swing. If you have questions about your own allocation, a fee-only planner or your agency's benefits office is a better place to start than a morning recap.

Tomorrow brings another set of numbers. Most of them will matter about as little as these do.
