TSP close for Monday, Dec. 22, 2025
Most TSP funds finished higher on Monday, with small-cap stocks doing the heavy lifting. The only loser was the F Fund, and it barely moved.
Which funds rose or fell
S Fund: $103.0919, +1.16%. This was the standout and the only fund to gain more than 1% on the day. The S Fund tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Completion index, which covers mid-size and smaller companies outside the S&P 500. Its 5-day gain of 1.6% is the best of the group, so Monday extended a decent week for smaller names. Its year-to-date return is 14.04%.
C Fund: $110.0172, +0.65%. It follows the S&P 500, so a rise of this size is what you would expect when large U.S. stocks climb. The 5-day gain is 0.92% and the year-to-date return is 18.65%.
I Fund: $55.1054, +0.61%. It tracks the MSCI ACWI ex-US ex-China index, meaning international stocks outside China. It has the highest year-to-date return of any individual fund at 31.42%, though its 5-day gain is a modest 0.62%.
F Fund: $20.8545, -0.03%. The F Fund follows the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate bond index. A dip this small is basically a rounding error, and it fits with Treasury yields edging up (more on that below). Its year-to-date return is 7.05%.
G Fund: $19.5677, +0.03%. As usual, it just earned its Treasury-based rate. It has no price swings, and its year-to-date return is 4.31%.
L Funds
The L Funds blend the five core funds, so they land between the bond-heavy and stock-heavy ends. L Income, the most conservative, gained 0.21%. L 2030 rose 0.42%, and the gains step up gradually through L 2050 at 0.58%. Everything from L 2055 through L 2075 rose 0.70%, which is what you would expect from portfolios that are nearly all stocks. Year-to-date, those longer-dated funds sit around 22%, versus 9.37% for L Income.
Notable move
The S Fund's 1.16% jump is the only daily move over 1%. Nothing fell anywhere close to that.
What moved IRA index funds and ETFs
One timing caution: the index and ETF numbers below are from the prior session's close, so they do not line up perfectly with the TSP figures above. They still show a similar pattern.
- S&P 500: 6,878.49, up 0.64%
- Dow Jones Industrial Average: 48,362.68, up 0.47%
- Nasdaq Composite: 23,428.83, up 0.52%
- Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI): $337.60, up 0.41%
- Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS): $75.09, up 0.56%
- Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND): $74.02, down 0.03%
U.S. stocks and international stocks both rose, with international slightly ahead of the broad U.S. market fund. The 10-year Treasury yield ended at 4.169%, up 0.43% on the day. That works out to roughly 0.02 percentage points, and a small rise in yields is typically a slight headwind for bond prices. That matches BND's 0.03% dip and the F Fund's identical move. The data here does not include news headlines, so I will not guess at what drove the day beyond what the numbers show.
What it means for your plan
A good Monday is nice, but it is one day. The S Fund's 1.16% jump will look small on a chart a year from now, just as a bad day would. If you hold a L Fund or a broad index fund, your mix is already doing its job whether the day is up, down or flat. Contributions made on schedule matter far more than any single session's results.
