TSP funds at the close

Every TSP fund finished higher on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Stocks did most of the work, and the bond and Treasury funds barely moved.

The C Fund rose 1.05% to $114.6014, the only core fund to clear 1% on the day. It is up 1.64% over five days and 4.43% for the year. That tracks its benchmark, the S&P 500, which also gained 1.05%.

The S Fund added 0.39% to $109.2815. It follows the Dow Jones U.S. Completion index, which covers mid-sized and smaller companies, so it can drift away from the large-company S&P 500 on any given day. Today it lagged. Over five days, though, it leads the pack at 2.59%, and it is up 7.49% year to date.

The I Fund gained 0.44% to $61.2747, tracking the MSCI ACWI ex-US ex-China index. Its five-day return is slightly negative at -0.22%, but it still leads all the core funds this year at 9.36%.

The F Fund edged up 0.10% to $21.0219, in line with the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate bond index it follows. Its five-day figure is -0.02%, and it is up 0.78% for the year. The G Fund, which pays a Treasury-based rate and carries no price swings, added 0.01% to $19.8441. It is up 1.29% year to date.

L Funds

The L Funds blend the five core funds, so their results depend on how much each one holds in stocks. The longer the target date, the more stock exposure, and the bigger the gain today.

  • L 2030: +0.42%
  • L 2040: +0.55%
  • L 2050: +0.62%
  • L 2055 through L 2075: +0.74% each
  • L Income: +0.22%

Year to date, the long-dated funds sit at 6.54%, L 2050 at 5.62%, and L Income at 2.79%.

What moved IRA index funds and ETFs

The figures below are labeled as the prior session close, so treat them as context for the broad picture.

The S&P 500 finished at 7,137.90, up 1.05%. The Nasdaq Composite did better, rising 1.64% to 24,657.57, which is the biggest move on the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.69% to 49,490.03. Technology-heavy indexes outran the Dow in this stretch.

The Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) rose 0.97% to $351.22, close to the S&P 500 because both are dominated by large U.S. companies. The Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS) gained 0.87% to $82.59. VXUS includes China and the TSP's I Fund does not, so the two don't have to match. The Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND) added 0.11% to $73.86. The 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.294%, up 0.05% on the day.

Notable moves

The C Fund's 1.05% gain is the one move over 1% among the core TSP funds. The Nasdaq's 1.64% gain is the other standout. Nothing fell by 1% or more. The only negative readings in the data are five-day figures for the F Fund (-0.02%) and I Fund (-0.22%), and both are small.

What it means for your plan

A strong day for stocks is pleasant, but it rarely changes the outcome of a plan built over decades. One session of 1% is well within the normal range, and the same holds true in reverse. Your contribution schedule, your mix of funds and your time horizon matter far more than any single Wednesday.

If you want to look at your own numbers, compare your account's year-to-date return with the fund figures above rather than reacting to today alone. This recap is general information, not personal advice, and your own situation, timeline and comfort with risk should guide your choices.
